Frequently asked questions
Tell us who you are, and we will show the answers that matter most to you.
Who are you?
What does AICT do?
It is a 10-minute critical thinking check that fits around any lesson. Students write a few sentences about what they think before the lesson. An AI asks them one or two follow-up questions, never giving the answer. After the lesson they write again, and the teacher or parent sees whether their reasoning moved. It works alongside whatever you already teach; it is not a curriculum.
Why does critical thinking matter now that AI can answer anything?
A student can now get a finished answer in seconds without thinking it through. AICT asks the opposite: explain what you think, and why. The follow-up questions push students to give reasons, weigh other views and change their mind when the evidence does. They apply their own thinking, and you can see it grow.
What student information does it collect?
We never ask students for a name, email address, date of birth or contact details, and students do not create accounts. Each student is known only by an alias the teacher or parent chooses, such as "Student 7". Students write in their own words, so please remind them not to include personal details.
What happens to what a student writes?
The teacher or parent can read it. It is deleted automatically at the end of each semester, and the alias list resets once a year. It is never sold, never used for advertising and never used to train AI. Our AI provider deletes what we send it within 30 days. The Privacy Policy has the details.
Is it a test or a grade?
No. It is a low-stakes reflection. Students see encouraging written feedback and a small badge, never a score. The teacher or parent sees the numbers, as an indicator of how one lesson moved a student's thinking, not as a grade.
What if a student writes something concerning?
Every response is checked automatically. If something concerning comes up, the teacher or parent is emailed (the email never contains the writing) and can read it in their dashboard. The AI never acts on it alone; a person decides what to do. No automated check catches everything, so this supports an adult's duty of care and never replaces it. AICT is not an emergency service.
Is there a free trial?
There is no free trial, but every new subscription has a 30-day, 100% money-back guarantee, once per account. Press "Get my money back" in Profile within 30 days and you are refunded in full. No forms and no questions. Prices are shown when you set up a class.
Who do I contact with more questions?
Email admin@aict.com.au. A person will reply. You can also read our trust and privacy page.
How do I get started?
- Create an account at Log in → Create an account and confirm your email address.
- Set up one class: your state, grade band and subject, and accept the Classroom Data Agreement.
- Subscribe. Every new subscription has a 30-day money-back guarantee.
- Add an alias for each student, then share the class link with your students.
Should I start with one class?
Yes, we suggest it. Try AICT with one class first, then add more classes later if it suits you. Each class has its own class code, roster and subscription, and every class appears on one home screen.
Do I need my school's permission?
Many schools have rules about new software, so please check yours. You accept the Classroom Data Agreement for your own class only. Your account does not mean your school or district has approved AICT.
Can I change a class's subject?
Yes, in Profile → Class details, whenever your teaching changes. Every lesson keeps the subject it was taught in, so each student's report shows their thinking growth in each subject separately, and the class report can show one subject or all of them.
How long does it take in class?
About 10 minutes across a lesson. Each piece of writing is limited to 250 words, so students practise saying what they think clearly.
What do I see?
Each student's before and after writing, their growth for the lesson, your class's growth this semester, and a report for each student with their growth by subject. You can download a one-page PDF for a parent meeting.
What if I am away and a substitute covers my class?
Pause "Class access" before you go, so students cannot use the class while you are not there to see a safety flag. Please do not give a substitute your login. If an urgent concern is raised, we email you and send reminders after 24 and 72 hours if it is still unopened.
A student is in two of my classes. Are their results joined?
No. A student has a separate alias in each class, and we never link them. That is deliberate: it keeps what we hold about any student as small as possible.
How does it work for a homeschool family?
One Homeschool Family plan covers up to 5 children. You give each child an alias and a grade. Each time they start, your child chooses the subject they are working on, and you see how their thinking moved.
How do I get started?
- Create an account at Log in → Create an account and confirm your email address.
- Choose "Homeschool parent", set up your family's class and accept the Homeschool Parent Consent.
- Subscribe. Every new subscription has a 30-day money-back guarantee.
- Add an alias for each child, then open the class link with your child.
How do you confirm I am the parent?
You declare that you are the parent or legal guardian of each child you add, and the card payment through Stripe confirms the consent. This is why there is no free trial. See the Homeschool Parent Consent.
Can I see my child's growth in each subject?
Yes. Every lesson is saved with its subject, so your child's report shows their growth in each subject separately.
Who sees a safety concern?
You do. We email you (the email never contains the writing) and show it in your dashboard. We do not contact your child or anyone else. Please supervise your children while they use AICT. In an emergency call 911, or call or text 988.
What does my child do?
Before a lesson, your child writes a few sentences about what they think. An AI asks a follow-up question or two to help them think further, then they write again after the lesson. Their teacher sees whether the lesson moved their reasoning.
How can I see or delete what my child wrote?
Ask your child's teacher. Because students are known only by an alias, we cannot tell which alias is your child, but the teacher can. They can show you, download or delete it, and we help them within 10 business days.
Is my child's writing used to train AI?
No. It is never used to train AI, never sold and never used for advertising.
Does my child get a score?
No. Your child sees encouraging feedback and a small badge, never a score, and it is not a grade.
Can my child not take part?
Using AICT is your child's teacher's choice, under your school's rules. Please talk to the teacher.
Can our whole school use AICT?
Not yet. Today we offer AICT to individual teachers for their own classes and to homeschool families, not as a school-wide or district-wide service. Our For schools page says plainly what is and is not in place.
What does a teacher agree to?
Each teacher accepts a Classroom Data Agreement for their own class. It binds a school or district only if someone with authority to sign for it has accepted it.
Does it evaluate teachers?
No. Results describe how one lesson moved students' thinking. Our Terms do not allow them to be used to evaluate a teacher's performance.
Can I see results across my teachers' classes?
No. Each teacher's class data is private to that teacher.
Does it replace our curriculum?
No. It is a check that sits on top of any lesson, in math, English, science or social studies, for grades 7 to 12. It shows whether a lesson moved students' reasoning.
What does the growth number measure?
How a student's written reasoning changed between the start and end of one lesson. Class and student figures use the middle result, so one rushed answer does not decide the picture. It is an indicator for the teacher, not proof that a student's overall reasoning has improved.
Can teachers see growth by subject?
Yes. Every lesson keeps its subject. A student's report shows growth in each subject, and the class report can show one subject or all of them.
Can we compare classes or teachers?
No. Each teacher's data stays private to that teacher, and the same student in two classes is never joined.
What data do you hold, and where?
Teacher account details, student aliases and grades, student writing and scores. Students have no accounts and give no names, emails or birthdates. The database and hosting are in the United States. The full list of providers is in the Privacy Policy.
Which laws do you follow?
We design and run AICT to comply with COPPA and FERPA and with state student-privacy laws. Our documents are published in draft and have not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. We have not signed the NDPA with any district and hold no SOC 2 certificate. Our For schools page lists these openly.
How is the data protected?
Connections are encrypted, student writing is encrypted in storage, and teachers can only see their own classes. We notify affected teachers, schools or parents within 72 hours of confirming a breach. Security questions: admin@aict.com.au.
What does your AI provider do with student writing?
Our provider, Anthropic, processes it only to send back its reply. Under its commercial terms it may not train on it, and it deletes it within 30 days, except content its safety systems flag (up to 2 years) or where the law requires.
How is data deleted?
Writing and scores are deleted automatically each semester. If a teacher, school or district asks, we delete a class or a student's data within 30 days and confirm it in writing.
Can families in our co-op use AICT?
Yes. Each family takes its own Homeschool Family plan (up to 5 children), because the parent gives consent for their own children. If you teach a co-op class with children from several families, please email admin@aict.com.au first so we can set it up properly.
Can a microschool use AICT?
Yes. Each class is set up by its teacher with its own subscription, as in a school. Please check any rules that apply to your school, and email admin@aict.com.au if you have questions.
Can a tutor or learning center use AICT?
Please email admin@aict.com.au first. Children you teach are not your own, so we need to agree how parents give consent before you start.
Can an after-school program use AICT?
Please email admin@aict.com.au first, so we can agree how parents give consent and who sees any safety concerns before you start.
Can I review AICT?
We would welcome it. Email admin@aict.com.au and tell us about your audience. Families can try AICT with our 30-day money-back guarantee.
How can I share AICT with teachers?
Share this page or the How it works page. Each teacher sets up and pays for their own class, and can start with one to try it.
