For schools and districts

Version 2026-11-v9 ยท Updated November 2026

In plain English

  • AICT is built around a ten-minute before-and-after writing check. Students use an alias, never a name, email or birthdate.
  • Student writing is never sold, never used for advertising and never used to train AI. It is deleted every semester.
  • Every promise on this page is in the Classroom Data Agreement and Privacy Policy, which are free to read below.
  • We say plainly what we do not have yet. See the last section.

The full text below is what counts if there is ever a disagreement.

1. What AICT is

Before a lesson, students write a few sentences about what they currently think. After it, they write again. An AI asks one or two Socratic follow-up questions in between. The teacher sees whether the lesson moved the class's reasoning. Scores describe how students' writing changed in one lesson. They are an indicator for the teacher, not proof that a student's overall reasoning improved. Students see encouraging feedback and a small badge, not a score.

Students are limited to 250 words per reflection, so the task is to compress thinking. The tool is not a grade and not a surveillance product.

3. Student data we hold

DataWho provides itWhy we need itHow long we keep it
Student alias (for example "Student 7")Teacher or parentTo run the class and show resultsUntil the school year ends, or the alias is removed
Grade for each alias; extra-support settingTeacher or parentTo word questions and scoring for the right levelSame as the alias
Subject, and what the class is covering today (optional)StudentTo keep questions on the lessonCurrent semester
Written reflections, follow-up answers, exit ticketStudentTo score growth and ask good questionsCurrent semester, then deleted
Scores and growth, skip reasons, timestampsCreated by the serviceTo show the teacher how the lesson moved thinkingCurrent semester, then deleted
Flagged writing (only if a concern is detected)StudentSo the teacher can follow upDeleted 3 days after the teacher opens an urgent flag, 7 days for others, and never later than 30 days
Safety log (that a concern was passed on, when, and its category; no writing)Created by the serviceTo show a human was told12 months
Student's choice in the optional support check-inStudentTo show the teacher how the student respondedWith the flagged writing

We do not ask for a student's real name, email address, date of birth, photo, address, location or any school record such as grades, attendance or special-education status. Students could still type personal details into their writing, so we ask teachers to remind students not to, and we treat everything students write as student data.

4. Companies that handle student data

ProviderWhat it does for usStudent writing?
SupabaseDatabase hosting (accounts, classrooms, lessons)Yes, stored
VercelApplication hosting and deliveryPasses through
AnthropicAI that scores reflections, writes follow-up questions and checks for safety concernsYes, processed. Never used to train its AI models. Deleted by Anthropic within 30 days (see section 5)
StripeSubscription payments and invoices (we never see card numbers)No
ResendSending account, billing and safety-alert emails (alert emails never contain student writing)No
CloudflareDomain name lookup (DNS) only. It does not carry or see student writingNo

We use no advertising, analytics or data-broker companies.

5. What we never do

  • Sell student data or share it for advertising or marketing
  • Show advertising to students or build profiles of them
  • Use student writing to train AI models
  • Contact students, families or police ourselves, except where the law requires it (see the Privacy Policy). The teacher decides what to do about a safety flag
  • Publish anything that names a school or class without written approval

6. Safety flags and their limits

The tool checks writing for signs a student may need support and tells the class teacher by email (the email never contains the writing). A person always decides what to do.

It is not counseling, a threat-assessment tool or an emergency service. It can miss a concern and cannot predict or prevent harm. It supports, and does not replace, school counselors, psychologists and your own safety procedures.

7. Security and incidents

  • Encrypted connections. Student writing and flagged writing are encrypted in storage.
  • Teachers can only see their own classes, enforced on the server for every request.
  • Automatic deletion jobs run daily.
  • We notify the affected teacher, school or parent without undue delay, and within 72 hours of confirming a breach or any shorter time the law or agreement requires.
  • We review our security at least once a year and after any incident, and keep a written breach-response plan.

8. Where we are today

We would rather you hear this from us. These items are not in place yet:

  • The documents have not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. They are published in draft.
  • We have not yet signed the National Data Privacy Agreement (NDPA) with any district. We will review a district's own agreement on request.
  • We do not hold a SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certificate.
  • We do not yet have an accessibility conformance report (VPAT).
  • We do not yet have state-specific addenda (for example for New York, California, Illinois, Colorado, Texas or Florida). We will prepare them before any school-wide or district-wide use. Until then we offer AICT to individual teachers and homeschool families, not to school-wide or district-wide deployments.
  • AICT is run by an individual in Queensland, Australia, trading as AICT Education. It is not yet a company. See section 13 of the Terms about moving to a company.
